510 | Death place: (Med Service) [rdwjr] I assume that his death in 1943 is connected to WWII. I have no idea what is meant by med service. It could mean medical servie or Mediterranean Sea Service. It is something that will require more investigation. Did find in an article published by the Athens-Banner Herald newspaper dated May 29, 2005 Titled "Memorial Day '05: Our Fallen - A roll call of Northeast Georgia veterans who lost their lives in foreign wars since World War I the name Regis A Borders listed as a Tech Sgt. In an email received from Daryl Reed, dated 30-Jan-2009 this information was provided: Description: I found some information about Regis Borders while I was looking for info on my dad's WWII service. Regis was killed in action when his plane, Li'l Jughaid, was ditched in the Mediteranean Sea south of Italy. Two other members of the flight crew died, but 8 were saved. 520 | Description: Fact 1: 1850, Census lists him as a farmer and born in VA (I think this could be his father) Fact 2: Bet. 1855-1860, Died sometime in this time frame. Last child born in '54. Fact 3: 1860, He's not listed on census Fact 4: Bet. 1856-1857, children, Margaret, Joseph and James W. listed as eligible for poor school funds According through stories that a Betty Miaze was told, James W. Harris was working in Gordon Co., GA and was trying to walk home to Floyd Co, GA, when he was caught in a flood and couldn't cross the river. He caught pneumonia and died. He is thought to be buried at Salmon Cemetery on Hwy. 53 between Calhoun and Rome, GA although a tombstone has not been found and the caretakers said they have no record of his burial. That's not to say he isn't buried there, but it's not recorded as far as we can tell. According to a Betty McKenzies' notes, " A granddaughter of James Wilburn Harris, Margaret Doss, said Rome had a flood when James Wilburn Harris died, and the family couldn't get to Pleasant Valley cemetery for burial. He was buried in the Salmon cemetery on the Calhoun Rd. A marker has not been found for him." Information provided by Joyce Wood (March 2006) | HARRIS, James W Sr. (I105)

521 | Description: From Mary E. Oliver Wood's Obit: IN MEMORIAM Mrs. Mary E. Wood was born April 22 1858 and died September 16th, 1880, being twenty-two years, four months and twenty-four days old. The deceased was married to Mr.______Wood November 11, 1879, ten months and five days embracing the period of her married life. Mary professed faith in Jesus and joined the Academy Baptist church in her fourteenth year, and lived a pious and devoted life. Possessed of good health and a strong constitution, she bade fair to live a good old age; but, alas! she died before she had reached the prime of life, reminding us of the truth of the words, "In an hour when ye think not the son of man cometh." A long train of mouners followed her to the Academy cemetery, where her funeral was preached by Rev. A. J. Kelly. She leaves an infant that can never realize the endearing relations of parent and child. She also leaves a husband and a very large circle of affectionate relatives and many friends to mourn over her early and sudden departure from their midst. A.J. K. (Mary E. Wood was the former Mary E. Oliver, daughter of James C. and Susan Pinson Oliver. I don't know why her husband's name is left blank but by the marriage records his name was S. M. Wood and by the 1880 census it appears as Simuel M. Wood. (This information graciously provided by Joyce Wood 16 Mar 2006) | OLIVER, Mary E (I79)
