  • Notes
    • Description: Fact 1: 1850, Census lists him as a farmer and born in VA (I think this could be his father)
Fact 2: Bet. 1855-1860, Died sometime in this time frame. Last child born in '54.
Fact 3: 1860, He's not listed on census
Fact 4: Bet. 1856-1857, children, Margaret, Joseph and James W. listed as eligible for poor school funds

According through stories that a Betty Miaze was told, James W. Harris was working in Gordon Co., GA and was trying to walk home to Floyd Co, GA, when he was caught in a flood and couldn't cross the river. He caught pneumonia and died. He is thought to be buried at Salmon Cemetery on Hwy. 53 between Calhoun and Rome, GA although a tombstone has not been found and the caretakers said they have no record of his burial. That's not to say he isn't buried there, but it's not recorded as far as we can tell.
According to a Betty McKenzies' notes, " A granddaughter of James Wilburn Harris, Margaret Doss, said Rome had a flood when James Wilburn Harris died, and the family couldn't get to Pleasant Valley cemetery for burial. He was buried in the Salmon cemetery on the Calhoun Rd. A marker has not been found for him."
