Notes for Thomas Jefferson HARRIS:
Thomas J. Harris fought in the Civil War on the side of the south. He was in Company D of the 65th Georgia. Col. Green Foster formed this company in 1861 as Coosa, GA (a little community south of Rome, GA). This company was in the War from 1861-1865. It was -reorganized into 6 companies of infantry and 6 companies of Calvary. It was again organized in 1863 to Walkers Divsion Gist brigade.

ROSTER OF THE CONFERATE SOLDIERS OF GA. 1861-1865, VOL. 6 states:
"Harris, Thomas J. -- Private in Inf. Battn., Smith's Legion, GA Vols., May 6, 1862. Transferred to Co. D, 65th Regt. GA Inf., Mar. 1863. In St. Mary's Hospital, West Point, Miss., Jan 11, 1865. Pension records show he was wounded, date and place not given, surrendered at Greensboror, N. C. April 26, 1865. (Born in Floyd Co., GA in 1833. Died in Gordon Co. GA in 1897)" (Correction - Death 1919 Walker Co., GA)

T. J. Harris, aged 83, Died last Saturday.
The death of T. J. Harris, aged 83, at his home in East Armuchee, Saturday, comes as a shock to his many friends in that section. Surviving him are one sister and three brothers. Funeral services were held from the Concord church Sunday afternoon. Interment followed in the Concord graveyard.

My age and wounds (shot in the neck and leg) have about rendered me unable to ??? have been growing worse for the last 4 or 5 years...(applying under) age and poverty. Supported by labor of his children.
Wife living, 9 children, 6 boys age 33, 30 27, 22, 14; 3 girls ages, 27, 25, and 12.. all poor

Richard F. Putnam
I have known him (TJ Harris) for 33 years. I served with him in same company. He enlisted in May 1862 in Floyd Co GA in Co. D 65th Division Regiment. He served ?? years and was released when our regiment surrendered at Greensborough NC which was the 26th day of April 1865.
Cause of death: Bronchitis
