      Bowen enlisted as a Private in Company C (also known as Company I), Phillips’ Legion (Georgia) on March 18, 1863 in Cherokee County, Georgia. The Company was known as the Cherokee Dragoons. The valuation of his horse was $100. He was detailed as a shoe maker on April 23, 1864 by order of General Stuart. He was hospitalized in Pettigrew General Hospital #13, Raleigh, North Carolina on March 24, 1865 with bronchitis and was captured in the hospital on April 13, 1865 when Raleigh fell to the Yankees.
