      Dr. Louis A. Mennini, distinguished American composer and educator, passed away at his home in Naples on February 22, 2000. Born in Erie, Pa. on November 18, 1920, he attended Oberlin College, the Eastman School of Music and received his Bachelor's Master's and Ph. D. from the Eastman School of the University of Rochester. He was professor of Composition at the Eastman School for 17 years; a founder of the North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston-Salem, N.C. and its first Dean of the School of Music; founder of the D'Angelo School of Music in Erie, Pa. and the founder of the Virginia School of the Arts in Lynchburg, Va. His compositions were critically acclaimed, won many prestigious awards and were performed world-wide by major orchestras and opera companies. A winter visitor to Naples since 1956 and a permanent resident since 1988, he is survived by his wife, Charlene; sons, David and Christopher; grandson and best friend, Jonathon; and granddaughter, Lilliana, all of Naples; and his mother, Amalia of Erie, Pa. He was preceded in death by his son, Jonathan Louis in 1973. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, February 25, 2000 at Naples Memorial Gardens Chapel of Peace. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to your favorite charity or to Hospice of Naples, 1095 Whippoorwill Lane, Naples, Fla. 34105. Hodges Funeral Chapel 261-1237
