Notes |
- What I remember most about Uncle Phillip, was that he worked as a peach cropper for many years. He liked to build things as well. He was a quiet man with clear blue eyes, dark hair and a good sense of humor. At one time he had a farm, where I would go and spend the weekends at his home with Aunt Betty Jo and my two cousins. I remember hearing him getting up real early in the morning to go milk the cows. And I remember that when peach harvest came around, the migrant workers would come in and work by picking the peaches and at the peach shed. My two cousins would have a candy stand where the migrate workers could purchase treats for themselves. Once Uncle Phillip tried to teach me to drive the tractor until he finally gave up when I ran into one of his peach trees. Once he took all of us down to the pond, and there were millions of tiny frogs, so tiny they were smaller then our thumbs. We tried so hard to catch those little things and at the same time slipped and slide in all that red mud clay. It was fun but I know till this day Aunt Betty Jo had a trying time washing that red mud from our clothes! - Recollections of Joyce Wood.
