Bertha had a son Melvin and a married daughter before she married Ford. In 2001 Ford who at the time was 78 went to Wal-Mart SuperCenter and tried to hold-up the pharmacy. He wanted to get a prescription filled for his blood pressure medicine and because the pharmacy was closed, he pulled out a gun and demanded that someone get his medicine. Wal-Mart called the police had him arrested but Uncle Charles Wood came to his defense and took him home. Presently, 2004, Ford is safely tucked away in a nursing home in Jackson County, GA.
