Notes |
- Peggy's granddaughter, Desiree James, wrote this note to her hoping to read it at mom's funeral.
Peggy Smith, my grandma, was the feistiest woman I've ever known. And when I thought about speaking, I tried to envision how sweet she was, but that's not the case. She did - however love us more, than anything on earth. All she ever wanted was to be surrounded by her children - and now her wish has come true. In life she probably drove each and everyone of us crazy - but she also had a soft side not many people saw. The grandma I knew loved children, gardening, playing dress-up, and singing. But most of all she loved her children. She was a giving person. Every time I saw her she was trying to get me to take something home. Grandma was the kind of person to give anyone the shirt off her back & or a place in her home, be it person or animal. And if there was something she believed in she would defend it to the very end.
Written June 2000.
High School: KINGSTON in WV
College: Charleston Business School
Occupation: Secretary at Gracewood State School & Hospital in Richmond County, GA for over 25 years of employment.
Mom remembered back in 1952-1953 one of their boarders was found dead in his bed. She says he was a coal miner and a alcoholic.
(Research):Peggy Glendean Walker graduated from Kingston High School Class of 1947. She was one of 24 graduates in Kingston, WV.
(Medical):Peggy was taken dignosed with lung cancer back in the summer of 1999. Her doctors treated her with chemo-therapy and radiation. In Sept. of that year her doctors said the treatments got all of the cancer. Then in June she started complaining that she could not walk. Her daughter, Belinda, took her to the emergency room the week of June 19th where the doctors found a tumor on her spine. The doctors were going to give her radiation treatments but she started bleeding internally and therefore she died June 26, 2000. Up to the point of her death she was free of pain and any suffering. She was in good spirits and aware of her surroundings. As I write this her children will not be aware of her being gone until weeks/months afterwards. She will be greatly missed from all those who knew her.
On her death certificate it stated that she died 6:25am when she died 6:25pm because I was in contact with my siblings all that morning and I could hear mom talking in the background. And then I asked my sister about this and she said," mom died that evening." Also, it stated that the doctors/nurses performed CPR when they did not. Belinda was alone in the room when mom died and she had to scream for any medical personnel to come. On the death certificate they mispelled my grandmother's name. They had it has Lidia when it is Lydia.
