    • OLIVER P HOPKINS, SR: 1865 Amnesty Oath - fair complexion, light hair, blue eyes, 5'7", age 43, farmer. - reference research of William Kerr.

      O.P. Hopkins, Sr. was a Private in Co.D, 3rd Georgia Infantry, CSA (State Guards)in 1863 for 6 mos. He reinlisted in February 1864 with the rank of Corporal. In 1865 he took an Oath of Amnesty. He served two terms as Sheriff of Madison Co., GA (1877-78 and 1881-82). In 1890 Georgia Property Digest for Madison County shows him as a farmer in GMD 383, owner of a 300 acre farm valued at $600. He died in 1897 at the age of 76 and was buried at the Old Danielsville Presbyterian Church, Madison County, GA. His widow, Mary M. Hopkins received an annual Confederate Widow's pension of $60, 1911-1912. She died in March 1912. Reference, research of Timothy S. Hopkins, great-great-grandson of Oliver P. Hopkins, Sr.
