      Virgil was born in Randolph County where he resided as a farmer prior to enlisting as a Private in Company H (Uwharrie Boys), 38th North Carolina infantry in Randolph County at the age of 19 on November 4, 1861. He was present or accounted for until he died in hospital at Petersburg, Virginia on October 31, 1863 of “apoplexia”. -- Source: John T. Nash
