Daniel served the Confederacy in the War Between the States and was captured April 6, 1865. He was sent to prison at Newport News, VA. but his discharge and release came just 3 days later with the surrender at Appomattox on April 9, 1865.

Daniel enlisted as a Private in Company G, 16th Georgia Infantry on July 20, 1861 in Jefferson, Georgia. He was admitted to C.S.A. General Hospital in Danville, Virginia on August 13, 1862 with “febris typhoides”. He returned to duty on August 3, 1862. He was admitted to Winder Hospital, Richmond, Virginia on October 15, 1862 with an unknown complaint. He was received at General Hospital, Howard’s Grove, Richmond, Virginia on May 27, 1864 with an unknown complaint and was received at the same hospital on June 26, 1864 with “febris intermitten”.
