  • Notes

    • From "The History of Walker County Its Towns and Its People". Samuel was a native of County Durham, England, was born in the early 1790's. He came to America when quite a young man, and eventually settled in Georgia, where he met and married Nancy Taylor Brackett, who was born October 2, 1796. A cousin of Zachary Taylor, the twelfth President of the United States. Shortly after, the young couple moved into Alabama and, is thought, settled in The Tennessee Valley, probably in Huntsville, Madison County, AL. In later years he moved to Walker County, AL probably during the 1840s and settled near Dora, AL where most of his children married into the old pioneer families of that section. It is not known when or where Samuel Walker died, but his wife, Nancy died near Dora, AL on August 16, 1870 and is buried in the Friendship Graveyard. page 204.
