The State of South Carolina
Spartanburg District
In the name of GOD Amen I, WILLIAM J WOOD, of the state and district aforesaid, being of sound disposing mind and
memory but weak in body and calling to mind the uncertainty of life, being desirous to dispose of all such worldly
estate as it hath pleased GOD to bless me with, do make and ordain this my last Will in manner following, that is
to say.
First I desire that all my just debts and funeral expenses be paid.
Secondly I give and bequeath unto my wife, MAHALAH WOOD, all my property both personal and real, during her widowhood, or until one of my children becomes of full age.
Then I desire that my executors, hereafter appointed, do give to my children as they may become of age, such land
or property as they may, in their judgement, think advisable by each legatee, accounting for the same as their
proportionate part in my estate.
And if my wife should think fit to marry again then I desire that my executors do allot off to her, where we now
reside, a sufficient quantity of land and other property for her support and what family she may have with her at
the time, to be regulated by the wisdom of my executors, and after the decease of my wife, I desire that all such
property, both personel and real, that shall be remaining, shall be equally divided amongst my children equally as
to make up all to be equal, and to them and their heirs forever.
I desire that all my children shall be schooled or educated in the common branches of education, as much as possible,
or as circumstances may seem to requre. And lastely, I do constitute and appoint my wife executrix and my two
friends and relatives, ISHAM WOOD and J. W. WOOD, executors of this my last Will and Testament, in testimony whereof
I have hereunto set my hand and seal this seventeenth day of March in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hindred and forty six.
Signed, sealed and published and delivered as and for the last Will and Testament of the above WILLIAM J. WOOD in
