Note: some of the details in the following text conflict with the details on the main data page. Since I don't know which items are correct I've not corrected the main data page or this page. Hopefully, in the future we can discover corroborating evidence as to the true facts.

In the 1840 census, the Woods live in Jackson County, Georgia. In the household are 4 males: one under 5; two ages 5 to 15; and one age 30 to 40. Females number three: two under 5; and one age 20 to 30. This may indicate the Woods had other sons before Simeon, but they did not survive. Names are not given.

In the 1860 census, the Woods live in Harmony Grave, Jackson County, Georgia. Joshua is 55, born in South Carolina. His real estate is worth $2,500; his personal property is worth 3,640. The property is worth much more in 1860 than in 1870, when the family had moved. During this time, the Civil War had occurred with an incredible amount of damage done in Georgia, causing us to speculate about what happened to the family. Stacy is 48 and born in South Carolina. The children are Mary A., 20; Adaline, 19; Pirena, 17; Louisa, 15; Rosannah, 11; and Simion, 7.

In the 1870 census, the Woods live in Erastus, Banks County, Georgia. Joshua is 66 and a farmer who was born in South Carolina. His real estate is worth $800 and his personal estate is worth $500. His wife, Stacy, is 55, is keeping house, and was born in Georgia. Living with them is a Mary A. Wood, 85, at home, born in Georgia. The children are in a wide variety of ages, including one born after Stacy was 50. They are Virginia A., 31; Permelia, 25; Lucy, 27; Rosannah, 25; Simeon, 17; and Martha C. 5. All were born in Georgia. With them also lives Jack Chandler, 14, a farm laborer, born in Georgia.

In the 1880 census, the Woods live in District 207, Banks County, Georgia. Joshua is 76, a farmer disabled by old age. He was born in South Carolina as were his parents. Stacy is missing, so it can be speculated that she died sometime between 1870 and 1880. Daughter Mary A., 45, born in Georgia, is the housekeeper. Also living with them are daughters, Adeline, 42; Louisa, 30; and Rosanna, 20. All of them were born in Georgia. Their last names are all listed as Wood, so it can be assumed that they didn't marry, a rather common occurence in the South in the years after the Civil War, when so many young men died.
