In the 1850 census, Isham lives with John and Margaret in Murray County, Ga. He is 26 years old, a farmer and was born in South Carolina.
On April 6, 1864, at the age of 40, Isham joined Company B, 36th Infantry Regiment, Georgia, Confederacy. as a private. The record confirms his birth and death dates. The unit fought at Rocky Face Ridge and Dalton, Ga., during the summer of 1864. Not certain whether Isham was there.
In the 1870 census, the Woods live in Tunnell Hill, Whitfield County,
Georgia. Isham -- spelled Isom -- is 48 years old and is farming. He was
born in South Carolina. His real estate is worth $1,200 and his personal
estate is worth $125. His wife, Amanda, is 31, keeping house and was born in
Georgia. She can read, but she cannot write. Their children, Sarah C., 14;
James H., 11; Margaret T., 8; John J., 6; William T. 3; and Cal Berry, 1,
were all born in Georgia.
