Ora Lee Christian (1914-1998) Obituary

   Ora Lee C. Gadell, 84, a resident of Magnolia Estates, 1641 Virgil Langford Road died Thursday night, Oct. 15, 1998.
   Born in Oconee County, Mrs. Gadell was a daughter of the late Robert Franklin and Katie Lee Norris Christian. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Michael Gadell.
   She was a retired school teacher, having taught in Maxeys, Ga., in the late '30s, later in Oconee County, and for more than 25 years in the Athens-Clarke County schools. She was a lifelong member of First Christian Church of Athens and former Chairman of the Board. She remained active in church and civic activities until failing health recently. She accumulated more than 2,800 hours of reading and monitoring of textbooks at the Athens unit of Recording for the Blind.
   Services will be Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at Lord & Stephens West Chapel on Jimmie Daniels Road, with the Rev. Ray Austin officiating. Her nephews will serve as pallbearers. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery.
   Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Diane Gadell, Corpus Christi, Texas, and Patrick and Alane Gadell of Conyers, Ga.; two grandchildren, Susan G. DeKeersgieter, Bloomington, Ill., and Jeffery Gadell, U.S. Army, Germany; a sister, Ruth Erb, Valley, Ala.; two brothers, L.H. Christian, Athens, and Billy Christian, Memphis, Tenn.; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Iris Lanum; and three brothers, Curtis, Larry and Felton Christian.
   The family will receive friends at 2:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
   In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Athens unit of Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic, 120 Florida Ave., Athens, Ga. 30605, or the First Christian Church, 268 W. Dougherty St., Athens, Ga. 30601.
