John Wood, Sr. (1780-1850)
Noticed that in dad's papers the death place was listed as "SPARTANBURG COUNTY, SC (?)" indicating that perhaps this infomation wasn't concrete.[rdwjr]
JOHN and NANCY were enumerated in the 1850 census of Spartanburg County South Carolina. The age of JOHN given as 81 and state of birth as SC are in error. It is known that there were five children, one boy and five girls as listed, (see page 119B-1

The folloiwng information provided by Sandra Battin, Granddaughter of Bernie Marvin "Bud" McCraw
In the 1820 census of Spartansburg, S.C., John Wood may be one of several
males listed in his household. Males are one ages 10-15; one age 20 to 30;
one 30 to 40; three 60 to 70; and one of 80 and up. Females were ages 10-15;
one of 60-70; and one 80 and up. I believe this is the same John Wood
because the neighbors, such as David Jordan, are the same.
In the 1830 census of Spartanburg, S.C., John wood has three male children
under 5; one age 5 to 10; two 10 to 15; and he is listed from 30 to 40.on
the female side, he has two girls under five; two between five and 10; one
between 15 and 20; and presumably his wife, between 30 and 40.
In the 1840 census of Spartansburg, S.C., John Wood is age 30-40. Males
living in the household are 3 under 5; one age 5-10; and two ages 10 to 15.
Females include two under 5; (there are a boy-girl set of twins in the
family, helping explain the large number of children under 5); two ages
5-10; one age 15-20; and one, presumably Margaret, age 30-40.
In the June 1, 1850 census of Spartansburg, S.C., John Wood is listed on
Page 4. He is in the age 50-60 category. With him live these males: 1 age
10-14;and two age 15-20. The females in the household are one under age 5;
three ages 5-10; two ages 30 to 40; and one age 40 to 50.
